AUK Hosts First Student Film Festival Celebrating Young Filmmakers

The American University of Kuwait (AUK) hosted its inaugural Student Film Festival at the campus theater, celebrating student creativity and visual storytelling.
The event, led by AUK student Arumi Al-Mutawa, gathered students, faculty, and guests to showcase original short films, documentaries, and poster artwork by current students and alumni. It provided a platform for young filmmakers to display their talent across diverse themes and styles.
Judged by faculty members Dr. Mohammad Akbar and Ramy Khair, the festival concluded with an award ceremony:
Best Short Film: Last Call — Directed by Shaikha Al-Othman
Best Documentary: Failaka Island — Directed by Sabeekah Al-Sharaaf
Best Poster Design: Weld Il Nokhitha — Directed by alumnus Mohammad Al-Sanae
The festival also included a student-created advertisement poster display, with the AUK community voting for their favorites. Winners were:
1st Place: Leen Sulieman
2nd Place: Fatima Al-Saeedi
3rd Place: Hussaina Vakil
Ms. Fay Al-Humoud, assistant director of the Office of Student Life, commented on the event's significance, highlighting its role in fostering creativity and community connection through film and visual art.
The festival underscored the growing interest and talent in film and media production at AUK, paving the way for a promising tradition.
