URC Commences Redevelopment of Souq Sharq Fish Market

United Real Estate Company (URC) has announced the launch of its Fish Market redevelopment project at Sharq Waterfront, with operations set to relocate temporarily to a fully equipped facility adjacent to the existing market, effective October 15, 2026, to ensure uninterrupted services throughout the redevelopment.
The project forms part of URC’s broader vision to enhance Sharq Waterfront while preserving the Fish Market’s historical identity and its vital role in supporting Kuwait’s food security.
Mr. Sulaiman Al Asaker, Executive Director of Property Management at URC, highlighted the company’s commitment to improving market efficiency, enhancing the shopping experience, and providing better facilities for vendors and customers.
As part of the redevelopment, the number of stalls will increase from 214 to more than 240, accommodating additional vendors and a wider variety of seafood and other food products. The upgraded market will also feature dedicated fish-cleaning facilities, improved ventilation and drainage systems, reorganized seafood displays, and new restaurants serving freshly prepared seafood.
Meanwhile, the temporary facility will provide air conditioning, refrigeration systems, and convenient access, along with transportation services connecting visitors to nearby parking areas.
Mr. Al Asaker emphasized that the redevelopment aims to position the Fish Market among the leading seafood markets in the Gulf region, while preserving its cultural significance and contribution to Kuwait’s maritime heritage.
